Play facilities in Tottenham Park given facelift
Children living in flats to rent in the London borough of Haringey can now enjoy new facilities at a park in the area.
Some £275,000 has been spent on re-fitting the 25-year-old Down Lane Park.
It has been completely remodelled and a new through-route has been added, which allows the play area to be separated from the rest of the park.
The new facilities were reopened by councillor Nilgun Canver, the cabinet member for neighbourhoods.
He said that the new play facilities could be great for the local community.
"The design of the new playground is the result of extensive consultation with local people, including children, as well as the Friends of Down Lane Rec," Mr Canver added.
New facilities at the park include a toddler play area and a playground for children aged over eight.
Play items made of natural materials, such as fallen tree trunks, stepping logs and pieces of wood for climbing have also been installed, alongside a mini-BMX track.
Some landscaping works have been carried out to give the area a much more open feel.
The improvements were carried out as part of the Playbuilder scheme, which is jointly funded by the government and Haringey Council.
Some 19 playgrounds across Haringey have been refurbished over the past two years using funding or more than £1.5 million.
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Haringey are being consulted on how they think the appearance of the rest of the park should be changed in the future.
A master plan is to be created and funding to carry the work out will be sought.
Down Lane Recreation Ground is near to Tottenham Hale and sits between two residential roads - Park View and Ashley Road.
It was purchased by the Council in 1900 and is used regularly as a short cut to local shops and Tottenham Hale Station.
