New system to bring cheaper heating to properties in Islington
A new energy system is to bring cheaper heat to a great number of properties to rent in the London borough of Islington.
This heating network, which is to be installed in the EC1 area, will be fed by a local energy centre that produces both electricity and heat.
It works by using heat that is the by-product of the creation of electricity to generate hot water.
This will be delivered through pipes to 710 homes on the Stafford Cripps, Redbrick and St Luke's estates.
It will also supply Finsbury Leisure Centre and Ironmonger Row Baths.
Councillor Paul Smith, Islington Council's executive member for environment, said: "We're on the side of residents and want to help give them cheaper, greener energy for their homes."
He went on to say that the new heating network will lower the heating bills of hundreds of residents and will also reduce the impact that energy production has on the environment.
Last week, Islington Council announced that young people living in the borough had been learning valuable skills at a repair shop for electrical items.
