New schools for Southwark
New schools are set to opened in the London borough of Southwark, it has been revealed.
In news that may interest those with children that are thinking of renting a house or flat in the area, a contract has been awarded by Southwark borough council to Transform Schools - the education subsidiary of construction company Balfour Beatty.
Under the £200 million deal, the firm will work on 13 projects across the authority.
The first new schools are to open in September 2010 and 2011 and as public private partnership (PPP) operations they will be partly funded by the government.
"We look forward to utilising our experience in working on major PPP education projects in creating first-class new learning environments in Southwark," said chief executive of Balfour Beatty Ian Tyler.
Southwark Council recently announced that it would be holding sports coaching sessions for children, using computer games to interest them in taking up real life activities.
