More homes and flats to rent 'needed in UK'
New flats to rent in the London borough of Bromley could be an important addition to the infrastructure of the UK, it has been suggested.
The Home Builders Federation (HBF) claims that new properties not only create jobs for people, but provide much-needed dwellings in which for them to live.
According to the organisation, there is a housing shortfall of about one million in the UK, which means nearly one-third of men and one-fifth of women aged between 20 and 34 live with their parents.
Chairman of the HBF Stewart Baseley said: "New homes are vital for first time buyers and young families - and are also greener and so cheaper to run."
The organisation also pointed out that despite the need for housing, fewer new properties are being built now than at any point since the 1920s.
Steve Turner, head of communications at the same organisation, recently stated that for every new home that is constructed, 1.5 full-time employment opportunities are created.
