Mayor calls for electric car uptake to improve environment for residents of property in London
Mayor of London Boris Johnson has called on the government to help increase the number of electric cars in the capital.
The mayor aims to see five per cent of all vehicles on the road be powered by electricity and has outlined a number of initiatives designed to help him achieve that goal.
And he noted that the plans will help create jobs, as well as improve air quality for residents - including those living in flats to rent in Marylebone - by reducing carbon emission.
"The time for simply talking about electric vehicles is over - we need real action on the ground to make the electric vehicle an easy choice for Londoners," said Mr Johnson.
He estimated that the cost of his plans will be around £60 million, pledging a third of this and asking for government and the private sector to fund the rest.
Last month, the mayor revealed that he was considering introducing an electric car hire scheme in a bid to reduce pollution.
