London boroughs to see extra transport police
Extra police officers are to be in place at transport hubs in Barnet, Hillingdon and Harrow later this year, it has been revealed.
It comes following a joint effort between Transport for London (TFL) and the Home Office to clamp down on transport crime in the London borough.
The Quash operation, carried out earlier this month, saw the tickets of over 3,000 passengers checked by inspectors.
Director of community safety enforcement and policing at TFL Steve Burton explained that despite just 15 offences occurring for every million journeys, attempts to further reduce the figure will continue
"Whilst crime on our network is low there is always more that can be done," he said, adding that the collaboration shows "there are no borders when it comes to fighting crime".
An effort to reduce the number of illegal taxis operating in London saw the Metropolitan Police Service make 25 arrests last weekend, TFL has revealed.
