Locals invited to comment on rules for properties to rent in Harringey
Residents are being invited to have their say on rules relating to privately rented property in Harringey being occupied by large numbers of unrelated tenants.
The council plans to introduce tougher controls over shared houses and flats and wants to hear what landlords, agents and residents of the Harringay ward and some surrounding areas think.
Some landlords have been transforming larger properties into a number of flats without prior planning permission and building control approval, the council claims.
Haringey's cabinet member for housing councillor, John Bevan, explained why the consultation had been organised: "Illegal conversions of some of the larger houses in the area - and the associated problems these create - are causing difficulties for many local people."
He said that the increased powers that are proposed aim to clamp down on this type of activity.
Families considering moving to the area may be interested to learn that various elements of Woodlands Park Nursery School and Children's Centre have been highlighted by Ofsted as being either "outstanding" or "good".
