Lambeth youth urged to propose new activities
Young people living in the London borough of Lambeth have been invited to come up with ideas for new activities.
The government is providing around £390,000 for projects in the area, with youngsters set run the initiatives themselves.
Florence Nosegbe, deputy cabinet member for young people at Lambeth Council, explained that previous successful ideas have included homework clubs and sporting activities.
"This cash gives young people the opportunity to decide for themselves where new youth activities are needed and to turn them into reality," she said.
The money will come through the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund, with teenagers being asked to propose ideas that incorporate government aims such as 'stay safe', 'be healthy' and 'make a positive contribution'.
London mayor Boris Johnson recently launched a scheme in Lambeth that saw school pupils receive free musical instruments.
The No Strings Attached initiative took the form of an amnesty - with people being asked to donate instruments - and was backed by Grammy award winner Sting, who provided a bass guitar.
