Lambeth Council advances ice rink plans
Plans to allow those in flats to rent in the London borough of Lambeth to benefit from a new ice rink and leisure centre have taken a step forward.
Lambeth Council's planning committee has approved a proposal to turn a condemned car park on Pope's Road in Brixton into a temporary ice rink.
The plans allow for the attraction to be in place for three years, while the ice rink in Streatham is re-developed into a state-of-the-art leisure centre as part of the multimillion-pound Streatham Hub initiative.
Sally Prentice, Lambeth Council cabinet member for regeneration said. "This is great news. The Streatham Hub is an exciting project and promises to deliver much needed modern leisure facilities for Streatham."
She added that the temporary ice rink will allow those in flats to rent in the London borough of Lambeth to have somewhere to enjoy skating while the new facility is being developed.
Last year, major investment from Lambeth Council and the Lawn Tennis Association allowed new tennis court to be opened on Clapham Common, offering more sports facilities to local residents.
