Islington council welcomes new safety campaign
Efforts to make roads safer in Islington have been welcomed by the local council.
The government has announced that a new Think! campaign is being rolled out, highlighting the dangers of the road to children.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick revealed that £1.5 million is to be spent on the initiative, with animated characters aimed at six to 11-year-olds appearing in adverts from next week.
Liz Wathen, road safety and special projects team manager at Islington Council, described the efforts as "highly effective" means of communicating with youngsters.
"It is gratifying to know that our sustained and on-going approach to delivering road safety in Islington has contributed to a significant reduction in casualties," she added, something that could be of interest to those thinking a renting a house or flat in the borough.
Meanwhile Merton Council has been recognised by the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its efforts to educate children about road safety.
