Improvement work to start on Burgess Park
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Southwark will soon see work to improve Burgess Park begin.
Some £6 million is being spent on improving the park, which is the largest in the borough.
More than 90,000 new plants will be added by this time next year and two new wetland habitats are to be created.
Some 164 extra trees are also to be planted and a new wildlife garden and over-fives playground is to be built.
Councillor Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for transport, environment and recycling at Southwark Council, said: "It's great news that we're finally starting work on Burgess Park. It's a wonderful asset to the borough but has long needed this facelift, and I'm really excited by the changes these improvements will bring."
Earlier this month, work began to completely demolish 98 units on Rodney Road on the Heygate Estate.
The 1970s concrete estate used to be home to more than 3,000 people.
