I Love Tottenham scheme launched
People living in property to rent in Tottenham may be interested to hear that ex-Spurs skipper Gary Mabbutt has joined forces with local politicians and businesses to launch a feel-good campaign designed to boost civic pride in the area.
MP David Lammy and Haringey Council cabinet member for economic development and social inclusion Alan Strickland are right behind I Love Tottenham, along with lots of traders in the area.
The scheme aims to bring together crucial sections of the community to celebrate what makes the area great and demonstrate unity in the aftermath of the recent riots that so disrupted the suburb.
Organisers hope businesses will display banners carrying the initiative's positive slogan, while people will wear t-shirts with the same message.
Shops will have bags and badges carrying the I Love Tottenham image and the council will also undertake environmental improvements such as the addition of flower baskets, hoardings and banners.
Commenting on the launch, Councillor Strickland said: "Rebuilding Tottenham - physically, economically and socially - is the council's number one priority and it will work with business leaders and the local community to make sure it gets it right.
"Our recovery action following the riots focused on maintaining business and community continuity - offering immediate support to those most affected. Moving forward, we're concentrating on bolstering community, consumer and investor confidence in Tottenham, through projects such as I Love Tottenham."
Meanwhile, Tottenham MP David Lammy remarked that he is proud to call the area his home and he loves "its vibrancy, its diversity and its sense of fun", adding: "We will rise again."
