Hounslow park 'could exceed Hyde Park' in size
A park in South-West London could be expanded under new plans, which would see it grow larger than the famous Hyde Park.
A feasibility study has been launched into whether Crane Park could be enlarged from 81 acres to 239 acres or more - almost three times its current size. The increased green space could appeal to those considering property to rent in Hounslow.
Supported by the bordering two Local councils, Hounslow and Richmond, the Friends of the River Crane Environment (Force) group have put together a plan which could see the green space classified as a new metropolitan park.
The group's report points to the park's "rich historical heritage" including the site of a former gunpowder factory and land previously owned by a former king of Portugal.
Force has suggested a three-point plan which would see the integration of local authority land, followed by the purchase of private property and finally adding more park and heathland.
Originally used by Henry VIII for hunting, Hyde Park covers 350 acres of land.
According to the Royal Parks website, it includes over 4,000 trees, a lake and a meadow.
