Hillingdon Council enhances waste collection with new trucks
People in flats to rent in Hillingdon are to benefit from improved waste disposal services following the introduction of eight new refuse and recycling trucks for the area.
Hillingdon Council has replaced its previous fleet of seven vehicles with the new trucks as part of efforts to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, aiding the environment while saving on taxpayers' money.
The new vehicles weigh around 26 tonnes when full and the addition of an extra truck is allowing the council to extend its recycling service to flats for the first time, with new bins also set to be installed at these properties.
Keith Burrows, cabinet member for planning, transportation and recycling at the local authority, said the old fleet has been used daily for eight years and is now outdated, making the new upgrade essential.
"Hillingdon residents are very keen to do their bit and last year recycled more than 40 per cent of waste, equivalent to more than 44,000 tonnes," he noted.
Currently, the council offers separate collections for general rubbish, garden waste and reusable items such as plastic bottles, newspapers, cartons, aerosol cans and metal jar lids.
