Hillingdon Council encourages residents to feel proud of the borough

Hillingdon Council encourages residents to feel proud of the boroughHillingdon Council has undertaken a series of initiatives designed to encourage residents to feel proud of living in Hayes, a district in the borough.

The council is holding a meeting with local residents as part of a consultation which will gather the views and opinions of locals regarding proposed changes to the area.

These changes include plans to improve the council's waste and recycling services as well as the launch of the Hayes town centre.

The Pride of Place and Street Champions meeting will give residents the chance to have their say on the regeneration of their area.

Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, commerce and regeneration said: "The thoughts and opinions of people who live and work in Hayes are important to us, so the timing of this Pride of Place and Street Champions meeting is perfect as it will help us promote this important consultation, offering residents in the area a chance to tell us their views on options to rejuvenate Hayes."

The meeting will also be attended by Colin Russell, manager of waste and recycling at Hillingdon Council, who will give updates on the new free food waste collection.

But these changes are not the only developments to take place in the borough.

Last month it was awarded £100,000 by the City of London Corporation's charity City Bridge Trust to support a scheme to get young people into work.

The money will go towards supporting Asphaleia Action, which helps unemployed youngsters get into work or take up vocational courses.

It has a particular focus on 16 to 19-year-olds with issues ranging from learning difficulties to disabilities, and then helps them into employment.

David Cottrell, executive director of Asphaleia Action, commented: "We are delighted to be working with Hillingdon Council on this exciting and challenging project. We think there are many more young people who can make their first steps towards employment. Some need extra help and support and with such a commitment from organisations like ours, the council and employers to work together we can create new opportunities."
