Harringay Food Festival set to be bigger than ever

Harringay Food Festival set to be bigger than everPeople living in property to rent in the London borough of Haringey, as well as others in the area, should check out the second Harringay Food Festival, which promises to be bigger than ever before.

Taking place on Green Lanes, the event is a unique street festival, which celebrates both local culture and cuisine.

It will be held on September 18th this year and it is expected to attract numerous visitors.
In 2009, there were more than 10,000 people at the festival, which exceeded all of the council's hopes.

The food stalls in particular proved extremely popular, so this year, there is set to be even more on offer, with the festival's organisers hard at work with the planning.

Greening of the Green Lanes is the title of the event this year, so there will be messages about recycling and carbon emissions reduction, alongside the ethnic food stalls, entertainment and activities.

In charge of the festival is Green Lanes Strategy Group, which has played a key role in transforming the area over the past nine years. The group consists of local residents' associations, police, council officers and councillors.

The main event will kick off at midday on the Sunday, with Harringay Green Lanes closed off to traffic.

There will be two main stages, offering entertainment to visitors.

Rob Chau of Harringay Traders' Association said: "The festival will celebrate all of the fantastic things Green Lanes has to offer with a tremendous variety of food and a range of interesting stalls and entertainment.

"There will be hundreds of residents and visitors enjoying the fun, with more food and family entertainment and a real community feel to the occasion."

Haringey Council this week set up a Community Assistance Centre for residents from Tottenham to help them in the wake of the London riots.

More than 100 people had gone to seek help by yesterday (August 11th), with experts offering advice on legal, insurance and housing issues.
