Government backs plans for Southwark regeneration
Plans to improve facilities in the London borough of Southwark have been backed by the government, it has been announced.
Southwark Council had previously approved a pair of developments in Blackfriars Road that will see the creation of restaurants, shops, housing and a hotel.
And in news that could be of interest to those looking for flats to rent in Dulwich or Rotherhithe, the government has now endorsed the plans.
Chair of the planning committee at Southwark Council James Gurling said the announcement would benefit the area and the borough as a whole.
"These developments represent significant regeneration in the Blackfriars area and will bring opportunities for huge numbers of jobs for local people, which will inspire further confidence," he remarked.
Earlier this month, Southwark's Burgess Park was declared the winner of a £2 million grant to upgrade, with London mayor Boris Johnson selecting it on the advice of a panel of experts.
