Government 'action required on housing crisis'
first-time buyers are being told that the government must issue "clear guidance" on house planning policy to avoid a growing crisis in the industry.
Stewart Baseley, chairman of the Home Builders Federation - a political interest group which campaigns on issues such as home provisions in the UK, expressed concern about the possible abolition of the Regional Strategies scheme.
He said although the project was expected to end, the government now needed to offer direction in terms of moving forward.
"We just cannot afford a period of confusion to reduce house building still further at a time when we are already building at the lowest level for many decades," he added.
However, Mr Baseley did welcome the scrapping of the Home Improvement Packs announced by the new coalition government recently.
Warnings of a deeper housing crisis being a possibility may dissuade some first-time buyers and encourage more people to consider looking at property to rent in the London borough of Lambeth or elsewhere in the country.
