Enfield wins garden award
The borough of Enfield has won an award for its greenery.
Enfield's pub gardens, private lawns, parks and flower beds have been given a Silver Gilt award at the London in Bloom awards rep, the Enfield Independent reports.
Judges touring the borough in July were particularly impressed by the existence of the Enfield in Bloom horticultural association and the "adopt a flower bed" scheme.
The flowery finery of the borough may make it a more attractive one for people to rent a house or flat in, particularly those with green fingers.
Another bit of London greenery in the news is Stockwell Memorial Garden in Lambeth
This week saw the garden become home to the first statue of an Afro-Caribbean woman in the capital with the unveiling of a ten ft high figure holding a baby, the BBC reports.
It was placed in the garden to mark the 60th anniversary of the arrival of the first West Indian migrants to Britain on board the ship Empire Windrush.
