Docklands apartment towers prove popular
Demand for apartments in a landmark residential development close to Canary Wharf reportedly remains strong, despite the alleged property slowdown.
Property developer Barratt is responsible for the site - dubbed Elektron - which is made up of three 25-storey apartment blocks that stand next to the Dockland Light Railway (DLR) and are within walking distance of London's financial district.
Although still months away from completion, just 58 of the project's 437 one and two-bedroom apartments have yet to be sold - bolstering suggestions by many pundits that speculative buying is spurring on regeneration in the City ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.
Among the site's key drawing points is a pedestrian link with East India Dock DLR station, which guarantees residents are well connected to the area's rapidly expanding public transport network including links to Central London and City Airport.
"The Elektron captured the imagination of the homebuying public from the outset," commented Barratt East London sales director Gary Patrick. "It's hardly surprising, as it occupies a prime site just strolling distance from Canary Wharf - a fabulous location - with a DLR station right next door."
