Deposit advice could help tenants living in flats to rent in London
Residents occupying flats to rent in London may wish to arrange a meeting with their landlord before they move out of their property in order to avoid any disputes over the amount of deposit that is returned.
Eddie Hooker, chief executive of mydeposits.co.uk, said if a joint inspection by the property's owner and anyone living there is carried out, an agreement can be reached regarding how much of the money put down by the tenant is kept to cover cleaning costs and repairs.
"This avoids taking the matter through to the dispute resolution process - and the tenant will get an agreed amount of deposit back straight away," he added.
Mr Hooker noted communication between the two parties is vital and observed most tenancies end without any problems occurring.
According to a recent Paragon Group Private Rented Sector Trends report, over 40 per cent of landlords anticipate an increase in the number of individuals seeking tenancy in 12 months' time.
