Council tax freeze may be welcomed by people in flats to rent in Enfield
People living in flats to rent in Enfield may be heartened by the news that the council is committed to freezing council tax in 2011-12 in order to help residents through a difficult period in the economy.
Enfield Council leader Doug Taylor stated that the pledge would be honoured despite a 27 per cent reduction in government funding following the impact of the comprehensive spending review.
"Taken together with significant increased pressures on council spending the council is facing having to find cumulative savings of £138 million over the next four years," he noted.
Mr Taylor continued by stating that tough choices will have to be made to ensure the financial stability of Enfield, but the body wants to keep the community informed and involved about the challenges that the area is facing.
Last week, Havering Council re-launched its Haveringcard project, which is designed to help local businesses and people from the borough through the recession in the run-up to Christmas by encouraging companies to offer discounts on goods and services.
