Church Farmhouse Museum to explore London Tube map
People living in flats to rent in the London borough of Barnet now have the opportunity to visit an exhibition dedicated to one of the most iconic designs in the world.
The Church Farmhouse Museum on Greyhound Hill in Hendon is hosting a display dedicated to the history of the London Tube map, which was created by Finchley resident Harry Beck.
A statement from Barnet Council explained: "The Church Farmhouse Museum … is giving residents the chance to explore the painstaking research, development and persuasion process Beck had to contend with in order to get his design recognised."
Beck's design, which is based on an electrical wiring diagram, avoided the problem of attempting to show the distances between stations, but was considered "too radical" by London Underground managing director Frank Pick.
However, it proved an immediate hit with the public when the designer finally convinced his superiors to trial the map.
Last year, the Church Farmhouse Museum held an exhibition showing the many Christmas traditions of days gone by.
