Camden residents to discuss Hawley School expansion plans
Families seeking flats to rent in Camden could soon have access to expanded school facilities following plans to expand the local Hawley School.
Parents and residents are being asked to contribute to a consultation that will help to decide whether or not to create a larger version of the school that would include junior pupils aged seven to 11 as well as infants.
This would involve relocating the school to larger premises within the proposed Hawley Wharf development north of Regent's Canal, which is located less than 300 metres from the current site.
Any new project would be undertaken with the intention of incurring no cost to Camden Council or local taxpayers, with the developer agreeing to foot the bill for providing the new school.
Anne Fontaine, headteacher of Hawley Infants' School, said: "We are excited at the proposal to expand our school, which would enable children to stay with us until they are ready to move on to secondary school."
Last month, the council revealed that 2011 GCSE results among students in the Camden area were among the most improved in the country last year.
