Camden renters 'may get home more safely' with new taxi scheme
A new council-run taxi initiative could help people living in property to rent in Camden get home more safely after an evening out.
The new plans, which will be unrolled as part of a six-month trial on Monday (July 27th), will allow private hire cars and black cabs to stop on yellow lines near cash points, allowing passengers to get money to pay for their journeys.
Drivers will be permitted to stop for up to five minutes on the lines between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 under the initiative, which follows a similar trial undertaken by Transport for London.
"Travelling in Camden at night is safer and easier now that passengers can safely withdraw cash to pay their fare while their cab waits nearby," said Camden Councillor Chris Knight, who is its executive member for environment.
Camden was recently described as a "hot London location" by Martin Grainger of Property Secrets.
He said property to rent in Camden was in "high demand" and that it is one of the capital city's most popular regions.
