Building work begins at Islington school
Building work has commenced at a school attended by children living in property to rent in the London borough of Islington.
The work will see Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language School (EGA) transformed over the next two years.
More than 8,000 sq m of new buildings are to be added to EGA, which is located in N1.
These buildings will house a new lecture theatre, a sports hall, performance and music spaces and information and communications technology studios as well as art and design facilities.
Councillor Richard Watts, Islington Council's executive member for children and young people, said: "We want to help give all young people in Islington the best possible start in life."
He went on to say that he is looking forward to seeing the school "reap the benefits of vast improvements to their buildings".
Another school in the borough, Canonbury Primary, is holding sessions every Friday morning called Everybody Read, which is helping to increase pupils' love of books.
