Austin to oversee private rented sector
Ian Austin is the MP that will now hold responsibilities for residents of property to rent in Islington and the whole UK private rented sector.
He has taken on the role as part of a government reshuffle by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Mr Austin replaces Iain Wright, who held the position for two years but has moved to another part of Mr Brown's team. Meanwhile, John Healy has been named minister for housing.
The change comes after the Association of Residential Letting Agents and the Communities and Local Government department both announced last month that there were to be various developments in the letting and landlord sectors in the coming months.
National Landlords Association (NLA) chairman David Salusbury said he was looking forward to working with the new minister.
He commented: "The recently published government recommendations for the sector are ambitious and to ensure that the voice of landlords is heard throughout the consultation process, the NLA hopes to meet Mr Austin as soon as possible."
