Regent Street Vision hailed at awards ceremony
A vision to bring Regent Street's shopping district into the 21st century image of London has been commended at an awards ceremony.
The Regent Street Vision was given Mayor Boris Johnson's Award for Planning Excellence at the annual London Planning Award.
The project was commended for its ability to mix modern demand for commercial floor space and "public realm" while maintaining the street's rich heritage.
Mr Johnson said: "It's particularly important during these tough times for the economy that we press on with developing our city so that the capital emerges from the downturn stronger and more competitive."
It beat off competition from contenders such as St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Highbury Square development in the category.
Crown Estate, which owns a portfolio on Regent Street, boasts a total property holding across the capital valued at around £6 billion.
The redevelopment of Regent Street, in the heart of the city's prime retail district, may excite people looking for property to rent in the London borough of City of Westminster, with a development that brings all the best of modern retail with a hint of a more classical backdrop.
