"Key players" set to start rented home construction
Four investors are set to kickstart the construction of new private rented homes in England, according the head of one of the country's leading housing and regeneration bodies.
Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) chief executive Sir Bob Kerslake claims the quango has been working with four "key players" who may help fund a scheme to increase the amount of rented stock in the UK.
Aviva and Aegon have signalled their intention to inject capital into the industry and according Mr Kerslake, another two will soon reveal their interest in the scheme.
He told Regeneration & Renewal: "Of those two, one will now be later on in the year. One may be sooner, but we haven't got an exact date on it."
Last month, the minister for the south-east Jonathan Shaw said that renting a property should be as big an aspiration to people in the region as owning a home and needs to relieved of its stigma as a means of living for people who are less well-off.
News of this substantial investment in the private rented sector in the UK could be a welcome relief to people looking for property to rent in the London borough of Barnet, or elsewhere in the UK.
