Government first-time buyer support "essential"
first-time buyers need more help from central government to secure a property in current market conditions, according to one expert.
Rebecca Roberts-Hughes, research officer at Metropolitan Home Ownership, said that support was required in the intermediate market with many people no longer being able to afford their first home outright.
Ms Roberts-Hughes added that help from the top could reinvigorate the stuttering housing market, but warned that a new and complex initiative could "deter customers and lenders".
She added that further investment in "tried and tested schemes" and reinstatement of products that have delivered both the most affordable homes and strong customer satisfaction was a viable solution.
Her comments come as a spokesperson for the campaign PricedOut.org.uk warned that young people who cannot afford to buy homes in the UK might consider leaving the country as a result.
However, another option for first-time buyers might be to consider looking for property to rent in the London borough of Enfield, or elsewhere in the UK, instead.
