Bankside 'benefits from ambitious architecture'
Investment in new projects and "ambitious" designs over the past ten years have helped to attract the residential sector to become heavily involved in a once neglected district, according to one publication.
Building magazine has charted the rise of the Bankside area in the borough of Southwark from a "void" between Blackfriars and London Bridge to a fashionable place to live and visit.
It pointed to three key developments - the Globe Theatre, Tate Modern and the Millennium Bridge - as key instigators for growth in the area.
But now modern office developments mixed with a revamping of older structures - such as Victorian warehouse warehouses - are helping to boost its attractiveness to corporate investors and those looking to move home, the publication noted.
In addition, the recent state-of-the-art office complex, More London, with its riverfront location is already enticing companies of the calibre of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young, both big four accountancy firms.
Investment in new projects close the south bank of the River Thames could help to boost the local economy and might attract more people to consider looking for property to rent in the London borough of Southwark as a result.
