Letting Agents in Chelsea London SW3 , SW10

Area Feature

When it comes to prestigious living in the centre of London, it doesn't get much better than Chelsea. The area has a reputation for attracting the likes of Patsy and Eddie of Absolutely Fabulous, and while it's not the most expensive area in London - that's a title reserved for Mayfair - the majority of properties still have a very hefty price tag.

There's a good reason for Chelsea's expense though. If you can afford the rental costs, you'll find yourself at the epicentre of fashion, culture and history. Bolly, anyone?

Once a small village, Chelsea's location in West London has helped it to achieve the exclusivity prowess it wields today. Bounded by the River Thames and Knightsbridge, as well as two landmarks on its east and west - Sloane Street and Chelsea Football Ground - it's a position that lends itself to a bustling environment and easy transport links among other advantages. Strolling around its gorgeous streets, you'll find yourself following the footfalls of queens, thespians, writers and revolutionaries.

History and culture

It was King Charles II who initially promoted Chelsea to greatness, with the commission of a farm track between Whitehall and Hampton Court Palace. While the road is now long gone beneath the sea of concrete, the area has a long and vibrant history that it is happy to celebrate. The exhibits at the Natural History Museum are unparalleled in fascination factor while the Science Museum will also amaze and astound anyone to walk through its doors. Those seeking to look beyond these traditional tourist stalwarts should stroll down to the National Army Museum and Leighton House Museum, the latter of which is known for its extraordinary array of Islamic tiles.

Interestingly, one of the best ways of getting to know Chelsea is to wander the streets on one of the many tours available. Usually provided for tourists, you can get a fantastic idea of the area while also getting to know the late Charles Dickens or George Eliot, which makes for a wonderful twin learning experience.

The properties

When it comes down to it, however, one of the most important elements of any potential new home is the property itself. Once again, Chelsea excels, with everything from striking modern apartments to imposing detached manors on offer. Much of the residential area is made up of houses in small mews, while many of the larger mansion blocks have been converted into flats.

As previously mentioned, your slice of this London paradise won't come cheap. Average rental prices are upwards of £644 a week according to Foxtons, with houses standing at around £2,993 per week.

All in all, Chelsea is a stunning area to consider purchasing a house in. The only danger is that you might get so swept along with the shopping, fashion, culture and atmosphere that you might actually forget to view any houses. Chin chin.
