Zone one bike grid proposed
People looking for property to rent in Kensington may soon be able to cycle to and from their home, following plans for a Zone One BikeGrid.
The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) has proposed that a completed network of cycle paths in the middle of the city could add to the success of Mayor Boris Johnson's Cycle Hire Scheme.
The BikeGrid will comprise of a number of high quality, safe and continuous cycle routes which are set around one central circle which runs north to south and east to west, the group asserts.
Chief executive Koy Thomson said: "To have the cycle hire experience fall so far short of expectation because of the poor quality of London's cycling infrastructure would be a disaster."
He added that the scheme needed to be integrated with London's existing public transport system to allow Londoners to have more modes of travel to choose from.
The Cycle Hire Scheme is expected to be ready by May 2010, with nine London boroughs offering some 6,000 push bikes for hire.
