Tenants can benefit from new BPF guide
Tenants of property to rent in Kensington and other parts of London and the UK will be able to benefit from a new guide from the British Property Federation (BPF), it would seem.
According to energy and climate change minister Joan Ruddock, landlords will also be able to learn from the publication, which includes information about how the carbon reduction commitment (CRC) scheme will work within the private rented industry.
CRC is the name given to a new programme that will try to reduce the carbon emissions of the public sector as a whole.
Ms Ruddock said: "I welcome the property sector's involvement with the development of CRC and commend this very helpful guide, addressing the needs of both landlords and tenants."
Advice is given regarding the way costs can be apportioned between both landlords and tenants and what should happen when a building is bought or sold to/from an organisation or individual who is not involved in the CRC initiative.
BPF chief executive Liz Peace said more needs to be done to develop the scheme, but she added that the property industry "is fully behind moves to cut emissions".
