Sutton launches climate change protection plan
A plan aimed at protecting those living in property to rent in the London borough of Sutton from climate change has been produced.
The Climate Change Adaption Strategy will help to protect residents from flooding as well as extremes of temperature and drought.
Councillor Jayne McCoy, executive member for planning, economic development and housing at Sutton Council, said: "Climate change is one of the biggest challenges that we will face over the coming decades, and the new strategy outlines how we can plan a borough that will be resilient to these changes."
The strategy follows Sutton's participation in the EU-funded Green and Blue Space Adaptation for Urban Areas and Eco-Towns project.
Ms McCoy went on to say that she is pleased that the new strategy has gained support from organisations across Europe.
Later this month, a special event is to be held at the Devonshire Avenue Nature Area with the aim of saving a type of small blue butterfly called cupido minimus.
