Stoke Newington gyratory to be removed?
Residents living in property to rent in the London borough of Hackney are among those who will benefit from the removal of the Stoke Newington gyratory.
The one-way system could soon be a thing of the past, after Hackney Council conducted a borough-wide consultation, allowing people to share their views on the A10 gyratory.
Results indicated residents and users of the road were in favour of the proposals. The consultation also aimed to acquire options for managing traffic and road safety issues in the area.
Some 70 per cent of the 850 people surveyed said they would support the removal of the Stoke Newington gyratory.
More than 1,000 responses were received in total to both the public and business consultations.
A number of key issues were highlighted following the submission of views as well, such as parking, traffic congestion, unloading and loading, and road safety.
Councillor Feryal Demirci, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: "It was important for us to hear how the Stoke Newington gyratory system affects residents, visitors and local business owners.
"The information gathered will also help to inform future decisions on transport, road safety and environmental improvements in the area."
Transport for London has been informed about the results of the consultation and over the coming months, clear objectives will be developed in order to improve the road system in the area.
The initial outline assessment of plans is expected to be completed by autumn this year.
Residents this week saw the results of another recent consultation, as antiques and collectables stalls were added to the traders allowed at Hoxton Market.
From today (July 29th), the Antique Forum Group will host a number of stalls at the market, on the last Friday of every month.
Student rents will be subsidised by 50 per cent, in a bid to get youngsters involved.
