Smart meters in focus
All properties in the UK, including flats to rent in Shoreditch and property to rent in Eltham, will have energy Smart Meters installed by 2020 if the government meets the targets it has set itself.
With the increased introduction of this new technology on the horizon, energy expert at online advice and comparison site uSwitch.com Will Marples has analysed what the benefits of this system will be.
He suggested that homeowners and tenants alike will be able to monitor their energy consumption more carefully, as well as do their bit for the environment.
Mr Marples commented: "Smart Meters are obviously still a relatively new technology and are beginning to bed in but they allow you to manage your usage better and have a real-time view of what you are spending."
All private landlords are required to pass on up-to-date meter readings to customers at the beginning of a tenancy contract - and the more widespread introduction of Smart Meters is sure to make this process clearer.
