Savvy landlord going green
Forward-thinking landlords are looking to step up their green credentials in recognition of the public's growing support for environmental issues, it has been claimed.
The Landlord Association said that savvy landlords who install energy-efficient devices that lower the carbon footprint of their properties are likely to appear more favourable to tenants.
According to the organisation, installing such features as draught-proofing, lost insulation and cavity wall insulation will make their flat or house more appealing to eco-aware tenants.
And with the government seeking to roll out financial incentives for people who install green features in their homes, analysts note that landlords can even claim back up to £1,500 of their expenses.
From this October, every rental property in England and Wales with a new tenancy will be required to posses one of the Energy Performance Certificates that come as standard with Home Information Packs.
The government has said by making the eco-guides mandatory prospective tenants will have more information about the environmental credentials of flats to rent in London.
