Residents of properties in Hackney 'recycle at record levels'
Residents of properties to rent in the London borough of Hackney have been recycling waste at record levels.
This is according to official figures announced by Hackney Council, which show that 315 tonnes of recycling was collected in December last year.
The council has installed 2,500 recycling bins around estates in the borough in order to make it easier for residents to do their bit to help the environment.
Mixed plastics, cardboard and tetrapaks like juice cartons are collected by these new bins, including the materials that went in the old banks, such as glass and paper.
Councillor Feryal Demirci, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Hackney Council, said: "Our residents are recycling more than ever which is fantastic news. The improvements to facilities on estates are making it much easier for residents to recycle."
Back in December, Hackney Council announced that businesses and residents in the area are to be encouraged to generate more energy from environmentally-friendly sources over the next 15 years.
