Protection for tenants of property in Lewisham
Those looking for houses or flats to rent in Lewisham should know that the borough's council is keen to work with landlords to ensure properties are maintained to the required standard.
At least that is the view of executive director for customer services at Lewisham Council, Lesley Seary, who said that the local authority will not hesitate to prosecute landlords who fall out of line.
Her comments come after landlord Lillian Aybara failed to meet health and safety regulations and then did not clean up the property when requested to do so.
Ms Seary remarked: "Lewisham Council prosecuted Ms Avbara for failing in her duty to maintain the property in a safe manner for her tenants. The council is keen to work with responsible landlords, preferring to work with them to improve their properties."
The Association of Residential Letting Agents recently launched a new licensing scheme, which it hopes will clamp down on rogue landlords and provide a better service for customers in the UK.
