Open plan living 'good for entertaining'
As the credit crunch rumbles on, more people are opting to entertain friends and family members at home, rather than spending money going out to restaurants and bars, it is claimed.
The Home Improvements Show survey found that 53 per cent of homeowners are entertaining more in their own property, with over half of those saying it was because of tight purse strings - and people who rent may be taking the same course of action.
With this in mind, Britons looking for flats to rent in Kensington or another part of London may wish to follow the advice of one sector commentator and choose somewhere with plenty of open plan living space.
Michael Holmes, from Channel Five's I Own Britain's Best Home, said: "People like to entertain in a bigger, more impressive space rather than entertaining in a small dining room, away from the kitchen, away from everything else."
He added that this was because Britons were keen to socialise, by talking and drinking while preparing a meal for guests, reflecting a UK trend for a less formal entertaining style.
