Olympics regeneration is on schedule, Boris Johnson says
The massive regeneration project required to prepare London for the 2012 Olympics is well on schedule, Mayor Boris Johnson has insisted.
People looking for property to rent in the Docklands area will see evidence of some of the work that is continuing to take place, as the light railway to Stratford International and Woolwich is undergoing an upgrade.
The International Olympic Committee is sending a team of inspectors to run the rule over the metropolis for the penultimate time before the first event gets underway in July 2012.
It had been feared that the city would struggle to cope with the expected influx of visitors next summer, but Mr Johnson has refuted such claims by insisting "we are ready".
"Excitement around London 2012 is already reaching fever pitch and there is no doubt that the capital will live up to everyone's expectations," Mr Johnson commented, before adding that plenty of work still needs to be done.
Minister for sports and the Olympics Hugh Robertson recently labelled the regeneration of London as "a major success story".
