New London mall opens
The new Westfield London mall in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham has opened its doors today.
Containing 265 retail units, the mall has been launched in defiance of talk of economic doom and gloom.
Commenting on the occasion, Mayor Boris Johnson said: "I believe this shopping centre is a fantastic vote of confidence in London as the world's greatest venue for the buying and selling of goods and services."
While the mall itself could provide an economic boost and new facilities for those living in the borough and beyond, it is also due to receive a package of public transport enhancements announced by the mayor today.
The £200 million investment will see the creation of enhanced Tube Stations at Shepherd's Bush and White City on the Central Line, a new White City bus station, a London Overground station and better facilities and access for cyclists and pedestrians.
