New bus station for Beckton residents
A new bus station has been opened in the London borough of Newham.
Transport for London announced that ten bus routes will serve the Beckton station, with 24-hour digital CCTV among its features.
Operations director for London Buses Mike Weston explained that those living in Newham would benefit from the safety of the station, which has four well-lit bus shelters.
"The new bus station in Beckton will make passengers' journeys easier and more convenient and provide them with a pleasant, safe and secure place to catch the bus," he said.
Route 366 is being extended to serve the station, which will also provide access to Beckton Docklands Light Railway and the local Asda store.
Bus drivers are also benefiting from kitchen facilities and a private area for taking breaks.
Last week the government announced that rail stations in South London will be made safer, with extra staff and CCTV being introduced.
