Merton 2-year-olds to get better start
Parents living in flats to rent in the London borough of Merton with their two-year-old children will be interested to hear of a new grant awarded to their local council.
Funding totalling £130,000 has been awarded to Sutton and Merton Councils to develop more places with child-minders for two-year-olds in St Helier.
Councillor Kirsty Jerome, executive member for education and schools at Sutton Council, said: "Winning this funding is really ... good news for people in St Helier. The initiative is a great way to improve services for young children in the area and will help them get a head start in early education."
She went on to say that the funding will make a big difference to many families in both Sutton and Merton.
Earlier this month, Merton Council announced that an additional reception year class is to open at Dundonald School this September.
Letters offering the extra places created by this new class will be sent to parents in May.
