Mayor's Fund to help residents of property in Shoreditch
Help for children living in property in Shoreditch has been announced by London mayor Boris Johnson.
The Mayor's Fund - a new charity - has been created to help the 600,000 youngsters in the capital that are living in poverty.
It is expected to have an annual turnover of up to £20 million within four years and is designed to help families across London.
Next year the Fund will commit £8 million to the Shoreditch area, with projects including efforts to improve literacy and numeracy among children.
Mr Johnson said he is "truly honoured" that the charity has "become a reality", adding: "Like Robin Hood we want to draw riches from wealth creators to give life-changing support to the poorest Londoners."
Those choosing flats to rent in Shoreditch could be among those who benefit as a result of the plans.
Earlier this week, the mayor announced that half-price bus and tram travel in London had been extended to those on Job Seekers Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance.
