Mayor pressed over East London Line funding
The London assembly's transport committee has been meeting with Mayor Boris Johnson to discuss the issue of funding for the East London line.
Mr Johnson has been pressed to redouble his efforts to obtain funding for the second phase of the extension of the line, Presszoom reports.
The mayor is discussing the extension with Transport for London and the Department for Transport over the phase, which will extend the line from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction, something that would provide an extra transport link to East London from South London in time for the Olympics.
Such an extension could also improve the transport facilities available to those living in the areas connected to the new route, such as those living in Wandsworth.
The expanded East London line was formerly a line on the underground system with nine stations.
Now being incorporated into the new Overground network, once all proposed phases are completed the line will have 30 stations extending north, south and west of the current network.
