Mayor pledge could be good news for motorcyclists
Those who rent in London and travel by motorcycle have received good news from London mayor Boris Johnson, who has announced that owners of such vehicles will be able to use red bus lanes from January 5th 2009.
Such a move will help those who use this form of transport to commute into work faster.
The measure will also see cyclists and black cab drivers able to use the lanes on an 18-month trial basis.
Mr Johnson said: "Londoners know that I am determined to make it easier for them to get from A to B in our great city," adding that he was "staggered" that those on two wheels could use bus lanes in certain London boroughs and in other cities but not on London red bus routes.
Beneficiaries may particularly include those living in areas with fewer public transport options, such as the borough of Hackney, which is not covered by any part of the Tube network.
Mr Johnson is himself a keen cyclist.
