Mayor announces transport help for low income Londoners
Those living in London boroughs and receiving lower incomes are set to benefit from reduced travel fares, it has been revealed.
Mayor Boris Johnson announced that new fares for Transport for London services will come into effect on Friday.
And those receiving Income Support will be eligible for a 50 per cent discount on bus and tram travel, while the Freedom Pass for older residents is being extended to allow 24-hour free transport.
"The new fares package does mean that some of us will pay a little more but I have ensured fares will remain affordable, especially for people who rely on public transport most," remarked Mr Johnson.
Off-peak travel is also to be introduced for the London Underground and the Docklands Light Railway, which the mayor explained will make it cheaper to travel during the day.
Last week Camden Council published plans to reduce road congestion, with the aim of improving safety as well as air quality.
