Kingston residents to be assisted with energy saving
People in flats to rent in Kingston will be helped to keep warm this winter thanks to a new home energy saving scheme introduced by the local council.
The initiative, which is funded by the Mayor of London with support from Kingston Council, will see residents in the Chessington North, Hook and Old Malden areas given free energy advice and devices to fit in their properties.
Dubbed RE:NEW, the programme involves experts from Climate Energy visiting homes over the coming months to fit the systems, as well as checking if properties are eligible for cavity wall insulation or solar panel grants.
It is thought that this project could help many residents to cut their energy bills and make year-on-year savings of more than £200.
Mayor Boris Johnson said: "It makes sound economic sense by saving you money on your fuel bills at a time when they are rising ... and it is good for the environment."
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Kingston locals can look forward to seeing the Olympic torch pass through the area on July 24th 2011, with more than 20 people set to have an opportunity to carry it.
